Your Engagement or Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot is going to be so much fun!  It’s such a great way for us to explore creative ideas, get to know each other better and what style you like best so we are all prepared for the big day. Here are 10 tips to make your photo shoot fantastic, but if you have any questions or ideas do get in touch.

1. Book early
It is important to arrange your engagement session early. This will give you plenty of time to enjoy the photographs and perhaps use the images in one of our guest books, which will make a lovely keepsake after your big day (please ask for further details), or you may wish to use the images for a “save the date" wedding invitation, or use them as part of your wedding theme.

2.Your favourite Season
A lot of our brides book a year in advance and if this is you, it gives you the choice of all the seasons and different looks they offer. Winter gives your images a nice cosy feel – woolly hats and scarves, and maybe a mug of hot chocolate. Spring is lovely as everything is coming to life again and the cherry blossom makes a very delicate backdrop. Summer is very fresh and colourful, beach photo shoots work very well, particularly against a stunning blue sky. Autumn is a magical time of year and the colour palette is just perfect for a woodland photo shoot. What do you like best?

We are based in Cheshire, but this could be anywhere, perhaps somewhere that has special meaning to you, maybe the park you met in, or the woods you love to walk your dog, your favourite coffee shops, book shops, the venue you are getting married in or maybe your favourite place is at home sweet home. Some of our couples like capturing the engagement shoot at the venue so they can get a feel for what it will be like on the big day. The choice is yours, if you would like any suggestions do get in touch.*

3.Bring the kids along too!

If you have children you are welcome to bring them along to the photo-shoot too. It really helps us to get to know your family and the personality of your kids. The children will feel happy about having their photo taken on your big day, which means we can capture their personality and deliver those lovely candid natural photos of them. When we do a Engagement photo shoot with kids we usually split our time between a family photo shoot and the couple photo shoot. So if you can, it really helps to bring someone along to look after the children while we focus on you both.

5.We’re pet friendly
We want to make the experience special for you, so we also welcome pets, usually dogs and horses but if you have something else in mind do let us know. It’s great as we get to know how to capture them at their best. We recommend bringing treats and maybe their favourite squeaky toy.

6. What should we wear?

Select clothes which work well together and what you feel comfortable in. Think about choosing a range of colours that compliment each other, for example a palette of pastels, or bright colours, or simply a selection of tones. Clothes can be casual, or smart, whatever works best for you. We recommend that you go for the same code.

7.Trying out new looks
Scheduling hair and make-up trial appointments the same day as your engagement photo session is a great way to see how a particular look works on camera. Particularly if you are wearing your hair differently or trying something new with your make-up. (You could do the salon in the morning and the photo shoot in the afternoon). Factor in some time for damage control, on the off chance that the salon results aren’t as expected.

Everyone is different, so the engagement photo-shoot is great for trying different approaches and styles (Natural, Fun, Creative, or maybe Romantic) to work out which style(s) you love best, so we are all prepared for your big day!

You might like to use some of the imagery for “save the date" invitations etc. So props such as black boards work well. Let me know if you would like me to bring our props or if you have your own, do bring them along too.
